Form Analysis Image + Interpretive Phrase
The objective of the creature mark assignment was to create a graphical interpretation of a species using the fundamental design elements to communicate the creature's uniqueness, including physical, behavioral, and personality traits.
Further, a phrase related to the species was incorporated into a rectangular composition following the Fibonacci sequence.
RESEARCH
Research is essential to the development of the creature mark. Important traits including habitat, dietary needs, size, and lifestyle stuck out.
SKETCHES
Creating sketches of the giant anteater allowed me to immerse myself in its form and structure. As the sketches progressed, the focus shifted toward the required geometric structure of the creature mark.
DIGITAL SKETCHES
While translating the paper sketches into Adobe Illustrator, the form was reshaped to follow a geometric structure. Unfortunately, the anteater's iconic tongue was deemed unnecessary and removed from the final design.
FNAL CREATURE MARK + FORM GEOMETRY
The final creature mark reflects the bulky size of the anteater, and the instinct to lower its snout in search of ants and termites. Using figure-ground reversal, the iconic stripe helps create the shaggy fur texture.
